This year, 24 Hour Comics Day falls on October 19. That's tomorrow. It's an annual event first suggested by Scott McCloud. It's an artistic exercise where comic creators try to create 24 pages of comics (or 100 panels for comic strips) within 24 hours. The whole she-bang has to be done before the end of the day. Very challenging!
I've never done it before, but I'm considering it for this year. I figure I'll wake up tomorrow and, if I have any idea at all of what I want to do, I'll try to run through the entire day.
I'm not as worried about the visual "struggle" so much as the writing aspect. When creating comic stories, I often struggle with endings, especially making sure all the sub-storylines wrap up nicely around the same time. I guess we'll see if the brainstorming techniques required with a 24 Hour Comic will help me with my writing.
I'll probably try to tackle a new Playtime Projects story. Not something about the generic puppettes as I have been writing about, but a completely different skit. I have a couple of settings and characters in mind, but part of this exercise includes not having the story planned out in advance, so I m trying to not think too much about it yet.
Update on October 20, 2007: I gave it a shot, but I didn't get my 24 hour comic done. Heh, I didn't even get close. It's hard! But I guess that's part of the exercise. Still, I started the ball rolling on the next wave of Playtime Projects strips—you can see a little teaser image over at that site.
