My buddy Gil pointed me to a Newsarama article announcing that Sony Online Entertainment bought the rights to make a DC Comics MMOG. (Also mentioned is that SOE bought the Matrix Online MMOG.)
Here's a snippet:SOE, a worldwide leader in MMO gaming, will work with WBIE, a major creator, developer and licensor of key game properties, to create a next generation online game based on the vast universe of DC Comics. DC Comics is the largest English-language publisher of comics in the world and home to such iconic characters as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the Sandman. SOE will be creating a DC Comics game for the PC and next generation gaming platforms, and is currently planning on a fourth quarter release in 2007.
Additionally, it was announced that SOE had acquired The Matrix Online game, presumably as part of the deal. SOE also owns the phenominally popular EverQuest franchise and other online games, and developed Star Wars Galaxies. While EverQuest did revolutionize the MMORPG world, since it's release, SOE has seen lukewarm to good reviews (or open hostility in the case of Star Wars Galaxies) on its later projects as other software companies, such as NCSoft and Blizzard (with City of Heroes and Worlds of Warcraft, respectively) have seemed to have been able to catch the MMORPG lightning in a bottle.
